What regulation is needed to drive the built environment to net zero?

The mounting pressure in the race to net zero is undeniable right across the
economy and is absolutely at the top of the agenda for firms working in the
built environment. And while regulatory measures such as the Future Homes
Standard including Part L are already in place there is a widespread belief
they do not go far enough. As such, the question arises: what measures need to
be taken?

Our panel will look at the positives and shortcomings of current requirements as well as discussing the merits of different regulatory frameworks. They will also analyse the regulatory measures needed to help drive net zero in the existing building stock.

Building Safety Act: Managing, meeting and understanding competency requirements

With the Building Safety Act being the single biggest change in building regulations in 40 years there are no shortage of issues the industry needs unpacked. It contains many measures, but one area that is of particular importance to construction professionals is the new responsibilities that will be taken on by designated duty-holders, who will have to demonstrate competency in their field and meet new building safety requirements.

In this session our panel of experts will look to zero in on the competency requirement changes impacting the sector, the challenges they pose to firms and individuals and the levers to compliance. They will look at the short and long-term measures individuals and firms will need to adopt and discuss the requirements for different roles in the supply chain.

The post-Grenfell pursuit of building safety improvements has laid out some of the biggest regulatory changes the construction sector has ever had to tackle. While data sharing, cultural reform and competence requirements are among the biggest challenges the industry has to tackle the significance of the product, manufacturing and specification changes needed cannot be understated.

In this session, our panel of experts drawn from across the construction supply chain, will explore and unpack the new requirements for firms from a product perspective. They will discuss the new requirements for manufacturers when attaining and supplying specifications, the changed obligations for the design team and the onus that falls on construction firms when it comes to installation and record keeping. Webinar: Building Safety Act compliance: Tackling the challenges of the Golden Thread

The Building Safety Act has made building safety requirements a priority on construction projects. But despite the increased focus of project teams, understanding its requirements can be a headache. The new legislation means any owner of a high-rise residential building must create and maintain a building safety case, with the support of the project team. This is widely known as the Golden Thread.

In this session we will explore how to manage and prepare for the requirements of the changed legislation. Our panel of experts, drawn from across the sector, will unpack the requirements and explore how to create, manage and maintain this shared and true data source. They will look at what new measures need to be implemented and how the barriers to compliance can be overcome.
